This summer I’ve been working on a new collection of ready-to-ship jewelry. I’ve been wanting to revisit the subject of ferns for a long time, but I only got round to it now, and rather spontaneously, for that matter.

None of my collections follow a specific plan, be that a good thing or a bad thing. This collection started out with a different set of stones than what you will see, and from a place of logic rather than feeling. But as time went on, some of them broke as a result of my experiments, emotions replaced logic, new stones crept in, I ended up designing a ring model that could be used in a variety of ways, and some design ideas came to me by accident in the midst of the chaos.

Someone once described my style as “dark nature”, and this collection is just that to some extent. Ferns hold a special and magical place in Latvian culture. Naturally, they flourish here during the summer, and they’re also firmly tied together with the Summer Solstice celebration, probably the most important Latvian celebration of the year. There is a number of legends about the fern flower that blossoms only on the night of the Summer Solstice (23-24 July). It is said that whoever finds it will possess all sorts of magical powers, ranging from the trivial luck and riches, to the more interesting gift of clairvoyance. There’s also some information implying that a fern flower can make one invisible if they put the flower in their shoe.

Not all of the collection items are ferns, though. There are also strange, beautiful stones in twig frames and two pearl items. I’ve debated on including the latter, as I’d like to do a pear collection next, but in the end I couldn’t resist. I think their organic texture complements the rest of the items quite nicely.

Below you’ll find a preview of all the items. The pictures are clickable to view them in more detail.
