This year I entered the Battle of the Rings for the second time. Battle of the Rings, also known as the Ring Smackdown, is an annual competition and exhibition hosted by Danaca Design Studios in Seattle, WA, and one of the fun parts is that people can vote for their favourite ring on IG.
Last year I didn’t get in, but this year my ring was chosen among 64 competitors whose rings will be exhibited at the gallery from March 1 till April 7. These rings will also be competing for first place, but I’m already happy that I got in and that my ring will be displayed in real life in front of people 🙂
This time I wanted to make something extra weird. I had a vague idea for a ring with many eyes and a stone that I’d been keeping for a special occasion, so I started carving and figured out the details along the way, like I often do. Once the ring was cast, I applied some Keum-boo gold foil to the eyes on the sides. This is a new technique to me, so it didn’t go exactly as I expected, but I was satisfied with the resulting pop of colour and contrast.
