This strange variety of fish is made with the technique called “cloisonne enamel”. Enamel is basically glass, so in this technique finely ground glass is carefully placed on a metal surface and fired in a kiln where it melts together to create a translucent glass layer.<\/p>\n
The colours of enamel are hard to capture on camera, so I’ve also included a video to give you an idea of how they look in direct light vs. shade.<\/p>\n
